The Malahang Police Post Rehabilitation Project of Ahi Local Level Government, in Lae, was officially signed this morning(22nd August), for construction to begin.
The International Terminal Container Services Incorporation, or ITCSI, Ahi Investment and Lae District signed the project.
This is the second of the two projects funded by ICTSI, at a cost of K400 thousand.
The groundbreaking ceremony of the Malahang Police Post in Lae was launched in February, this year. During the same time, two new police vehicles were given by ICTSI, costing K200 thousand.
However, the construction of the Police Post was delayed, due to changes made to the design. The initial construction cost of the building was K250 thousand.
ICTSI is the company that signed a 25-year agreement with the PNG Government for the operation, management, and development, of the country’s international ports, including Lae Tidal Basin.
ICTSI has partnered with Ahi Investment Limited, a shareholder of Lae based Stevedoring Company, Riback Stevedore, whose function was taken over by ICTSI.
The partnership program between Ahi Investment, ICTSI and Lae District is focusing on addressing Law and Order issues in the communities of Ahi LLG.
The recent changes to the design of the Malahang police post will include a cellblock and a Family and Sexual Violence Unit.
This resulted in the increase in the initial cost of the building from K250 thousand to K400 thousand.
The Patron for Family and Sexual Violence Action Committee and Member for Lae, John Rosso says, the district is planning to build a cellblock and an FSV Unit, at all police posts in Lae.
