Madang Market renovation costs over K24 million

The Madang town market will undergo renovation next year costing eleven million US Dollars that is over Twenty-Four million kina.

 

Funding for this project will be made possible bythe Japanese Government with counterpart funding fromthe National Fisheries Authority.

The instruments were signed bythe Managing Director for National Fisheries Authority Sylvester Pokajam and representatives fromthe JapanInternational Corporation Agency or JICA in Port Moresby.

 

This will pavethe way for the redevelopment ofthe Madang Town Market costing 11 million US Dollars, that is K24, 371, 600.00

It is an economic impact project aimed at improving access to better market facilities for the rural people.

 

Negotiations to get this project offthe ground have taken 2 years and Mr. Pokajam is happy to see it come to fruition.

 

“This project will bring services tothe rural people. They will have access to better market facility to can selltheir produce,” said Pokajam.
 

This is a commitment bythe Japanese Government towardsthe people of Papua New GuineaafterthPNG Government allowed it to fish again in its waters in 2006.

 

Mainly coastal villages will benefit under this agreement with Alotau to bethe next after Madang.

 

Work onthe project is expected to begin next year.
