Madang Bi-Election Questioned

The declaration ofthe Madang by-election is being questioned by ther candidates.

Candidates inthe Madang Open by-election petitionedthe Electoral Commission during counting after suspicions arose whentheReturning Officer, Adolf Duangha, refused to disclose serial numbers to scrutineers.

Even though a direction was issued by Electoral Commissioner, Andrew Trawen, for him to make that information public, that never happened.

Nixon Duban polled 18 226 afterthe 14th exclusion, and was declared bytheReturning Officer last night.

However, petitioner Beyan Karmer, with runners up, Stanely Pil and Peter Yama, in a press conference this afternoon revealed thatthey have discovered 10 thousand valid ballot papers.

Thisthey say confirmsthe suspicions thatthe integrity ofthe Madang by-election was compromised.

They are also questioningthe current results against 2012 figures ,which show thatthe candidate declared, polled 3 times more than what he got at this stage last year.
