Attorney General and Minister for Justice Kerenga Kua have called on landowners to respect agreements made bytheir fore fthers.
This is in light of a back log of land disputes now beforethe courts.
He was responding to questions asked by West New Beitain Governor Sasindran Muthuvel during question time.
Governor Muthuvel askedthe Attorney general to givethe exact figure of pending land dispute cases beforethe courts.
He also asked if NEC hasthe power to impose a moratorium onthe cases.
He believes most ofthe land acts are out-dated.
Minister Kua could not givethe exact figure of land dispute cases but said most ofthe cases are unnecessary.Landowners need to educatethemselves withthe agreementstheir forefthers made. He was making reference to compensation claims by L.O’s to major infrastructures like roads.
The minister addedthe country’s laws on land are notthe problemthe people are.
