The Superior General of the De La Salle Brothers worldwide is in the country for his first official visit.

Brother Robert Schieler, who is the 27th successor to the Catholic Saint, St John Baptist De La Salle, was welcomed at the Jackson’s International Airport this afternoon.

“As the Brother Superior it is my responsibility to visit all of our Lasallian Schools around the world. We have 1000 schools with over 100,000 students under our care,” Br Robert said.

The visit also marks the 70 years of the Lasallian Catholic National News Ministry in Papua New Guinea.

The first group of De La Salle Brothers arrived in PNG after World War 2, in 1946, and since then the order has expanded to promote education amongst youths in over a number of education institutes which includes De La Salle Secondary Bomana, Jubilee Catholic Secondary, LaSalle Technical College and Mainohana Secondary in the Central Province.

“For us Lasallians we are honoured to have the Brother Superior here in PNG because he is the top in the hierarchy of all De La Salle brothers,” said Rose Pongi the NCD Lasallian Coordinator.

Br Robert will be in Port Moresby for the next three days and a combined mass celebration will be held at Hohola’s LaSalle Technical College this coming Tuesday.

Br Robert will leave for Australia on Wednesday.
