Landowner companies meet with Oil Search’s senior management team for annual workshop in Kokopo

Partnerships between resource developers and landowner companies is very crucial to the success of the industry, says Leon Buskens, Senior Vice President External Affairs – Community – for Oil Search.

Buskens was speaking at the welcome dinner for the second annual Oil Search landowner company Leaders Stakeholder Engagement Workshop hosted by Peter Botten, Managing Director of Oil Search on the 30th of October 2019.

Held this year in Kokopo, East New Britain, the workshop brought together Oil Search’s senior management team, leaders from landowner companies operating in Oil Search project areas and invited guests to meet, share information and work together to discuss challenges and identify business optimization opportunities.

Held at the Gazelle International Hotel, the workshop was attended by business leaders from the landowner company’s from Hides, Moran, Kutubu and Gobe, observers Laba from the Plant site and IPI from Porgera, and key Oil Search senior representatives including Gerea Aopi, PNG Country Director, Oil Search.

“Oil Search has been here for more than 90 years and will continue to be here through the good times and the bad. We all need to work together and create a win-win situation because when landowner companies win, we win” Botten stated.

This two-day workshop, that ran from Thursday 31 October to Friday 1 November 2019, follows the success of last year’s inaugural event in Goroka.

“It is critical that resource companies and landowner companies work together in close partnership, especially during challenging times, and these structured workshops provide a great communication platform” said Buskens.

The dinner was immediately followed by the screening of an EMTV/EMTEK documentary titled “The Last Mile”. The documentary told the story of the devastating earthquake that hit the southern highlands last year and highlighted the importance of partnerships and working in collaboration, especially during times of need.
