Laloki Psychiatric Hospital Staff on Strike over Water issues

This morning workers of Laloki Psychiatric Centre went on strike by locking the main entrance of the facility which accommodates close to over 500 patients.

It comes after Eda Ranu disconnected the main water supply facility supplying water into their homes.

They said the main water facility was disconnected by Eda Ranu 17 years ago, and even the bore water pump is not functioning well due to leakage.

Discussions with Eda Ranu to reconnect the water have resulted in a costing of K2 million to install a proper water system. The bore water pump has not been operating, because chloride particles have leaked out of the system and blocked the main pump.

For the past four months, water services to the hospital ceased and  was seriously affecting both patients and staff.

Many times, hospital staff are harassed by criminals while walking 5 kilometers away from their homes to access the nearest water source.

They said even though the issue was brought forward to authorities, they have not received a positive response.

This has prompted them to go on strike for an indefinite period until the matter is resolved.
