Lae suburban roads remain a problem

Suburban Lae remains hopeful thatthe recent visit bythe Prime Minister will kick start repairs to roads leading out of town.

Residents saytheir roads onthe outskirt are complete opposite tothe rehabilitated roads within town.

The state of Lae’s suburban roads remains a major problem for residents.

They say a combination of neglect and unpredictable wether has contributed towardsthe worsening road conditions.

Overthe past years, little has been done to upgradethese roads.

It’s an added burden for those who own a carPMV owners, charge twicethe normal bus fare to take passengers tothese locations.

Morobe Governor, Kelly Naru meanwhile urgedthe government thatthere was no proper coordination betweenthe Department of Finance andthe Department of works that resulted to poor coordination, poor awarding of contracts and no supervision ofthe contractors duringthe Lae city road rehabilitation program.  

Governor Naru said he doesn’t wantthe same problem to happen again. That was also brought tothe attention ofthe Prime Minister during his recent visit to Lae.
