Dozens of Guard Dog Security men are clashing with settlers at 10 mile in Lae after six members of the security firm were injured in an altercation with settlers last night.
It is understood one guard was initially assaulted by a settler during nightly drop off and that triggered the string of events.
Hours later, several passing guard dog vehicles were stoned prompting staff to react. Nearby residents reported that the fighting last night took several hours before the situation was calmed.
At about 6am, clashes started again. Guard Dog’s General Manager, Peter Aigilo, was at the scene this morning to contain his men.
“Several of our vehicles were stoned last night for no reason,” Mr. Aigilo said. “Several of our staff got injured.”
The clash comes on the back of a mass prison breakout on Thursday. Police engaged in the hunt of more than 60 prisoners still at large have been slow to react to the clash.
At least three policemen were sent to the scene to help contain the fighting.
