Lae’s Newly Renovated Law Courts Complex

by Colleen Barilae – EM TV, Lae

The newly renovated national court complex in Lae is expected to enhance judicial services in the province following a facility upgrade over the last two months.

Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia, officially opened the newly renovated building yesterday in front of Lae’s members of the legal fraternity and other invited delegates.

During his speech, Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia described the old court building in Lae as “a fire hazard and an eyesore”.

The Lae Court House complex had been in existence for over 20 years.

Yesterday marked the official opening of the newly renovated building after much of the court buildings and facilities deteriorated overtime.

Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia during his speech yesterday said the judiciary requires complete funding allocations from the government for its development plans.

Some of the buildings at the Lae courts share facilities with the higher and lower courts.

The building renovation has cost K2 million.

Other dignitaries also present at the event including Morobe Governor, Kelly Naru, said the refurbished courtrooms and offices would greatly assist the efforts put by lawyers, magistrates and judges to continue to maintain justice amongst people within the province.

The newly refurbished office complex depicts an efficient and effective responsibility that lies ahead for judicial services within Morobe.

Meanwhile, the judiciary has been awaiting Lands Department to approve occupancy on a designated land in Lae before it will begin construction of a new regional court complex in the next two years.
