Lae Government Contractor Appeals for Settlement of Unpaid Work

A contractor who was engaged by Lae City Council to build an elementary classroom is still waiting for his payment of over K43,000.

Topcy Abu, a father of three and a long time resident of Lae, said he was issued his cheque payment in 2013 from the Lae City Council Office.

However, Abu cannot deposit the money into his account because the bank had advised him that there is no money in Lae City Council’s main account.

Meanwhile, contractors to the Morobe Provincial Government are yet to get a response on their unpaid claims worth more than K7 million.

Acting Provincial Administrator, Sheila Pati Harou said this is the result of bad management and the administration is working closely to solve the issue.
