Lae Fire Razes Main Market Store

by Bethanie Harriman EM TV – Lae

Lae’s XinZheng Store at the main market burnt down at around noon today after a fire started from within the property.

The fire comes over five weeks after Lae’s top town Brian Bell home centre and courts store burnt down. It is Lae’s sixteenth fire in the span of two years.

Police were at the scene to stop possible looting that can occur.

Onlookers that include several street vendors and security guards at the main Market say the Fire could have started from the restaurant area.

“The smoke came from the restaurant before the fire started,” said Security Guard, Yonki Nanga.

Zheng store is located next to the Main market bus stop and the fire disrupted traffic.

Initially, the flames where small but it grew to engulf the whole building.

Firemen arrived minutes after the fire started and struggled to contain the Fire.

In May, the Brian Bell home centre burnt down, five days later the courts store completely destroyed.
