Kutubu Kundu and Digaso Festival Receives Support from MRDC

The Kutubu Kundu and Digaso Festival Committee received a timely boost to support the staging of this year’s festival.

The Mineral Resource Development Company (MRDC) presented the committee with K50,000, marking its fifth year of sponsoring the Kutubu Kundu and Digaso Festival.

The festival will be held in Kutubu, in Southern Highlands Province, from September 25-26, and is themed “Preserving Our Cultural Heritage Through Saving Our Environment”.

Kututbu is one of PNG’s most resource rich areas, home to the Kutubu oil fields and the PNG LNG Project.

The festival is staged annually and is aimed at promoting ecotourism; bringing communities together to celebrate their culture and the environment, and to teach the younger generation on protecting and preserving the environment.

At the presentation, Augustine Mano, MRDC Managing Director, spoke of the company’s support towards the landowners, and in teaching long term sustainability.

“We are proud to continue our support of a unique festival in the Southern Highlands Province that not only promotes the diverse culture and traditions of the Kutubu people, but one that also teaches sustainable development by preserving their environment and culture,” said Mano.
