Kokonas Industri Koporesen: New Chairman Appointed

The coconut industry has to be translated into a viable and self-sustaining commercial entity, said Executive Director of Asia Pacific Coconut Community, Uron Salum.

He said this when being formally appointed as Chairman ofthe KokonasIndustri Koporesen andthe Cocoa CoconutInstitute. Mr Salum said a new leaf had to be turned to boostthe industry.

The ceremony was held atthe KIK head office in Port Moresby on Friday.

Witnessed by board members, Mr Uron took his oath. He expressed his gratitude to Minister for Agriculture and Livestock, Tommy Tomscoll, for his appointment.

Mr Salums’s appointment also coincided withthe appointment of fellow Director, Kili Tambua. Currentlythe Bank Of South Pacific’s Deputy General Manager for Retail Banking, Mr Tambua, said new approaches will be taken to boost and supportthe sector.

The KIK regulatesthe coconut industry and also provides an enabling business environment in production, trading, processing, and exporting in PNG

Likewise,the CCI isthe major research and development organization that deals with cocoa and coconut agronomy through to processing and quality control.
