Koimumu Road Severely damaged

by Jack Lapauve Jnr – EM TV, Kimbe

Sections of the Koimumu road in the Hoskins LLG of West New Britain are severely damaged. Parts of the road in Galilo village and nearby areas are eroding at an alarming rate.

Current status of the roads need an entire face lift and repair, before the road collapses limiting the access for people to services in town.

Ward 8 councillor Nelson Sege says the government must do something or the people will be disconnected.

Sege said no proper seawall and lack of road maintenance, has contributed to the current road conditions.

He called on the West New Britain provincial government to step in and fix the roads. Currently, Nivani, a local company is working on parts of the Koimumu road.

Slow release of findings has also delayed works in the area. However, last week, Works Minister Francis Awesa presented a joint funding of K1 million to Nivani, to complete repair and maintenance of the road.

The joint funding was presented to Nivani staff witnessed by West New Britain Governor Sasindran Muthuvel, Works Secretary David Wereh and provincial works staff in Kimbe.
