Kerema Water Project Funds Given

The township of Kerema will now have access to piped water.

Gulf Province Governor Havila Kavo presented half a million kina to WaterPNG for the construction ofthe Kerema Water Supply project.

It’s a project eight years in waiting.

Gulf Provincial Government and WaterPNG are carrying outthe groundwork.

Acting Chief Executive Officer for WaterPNG Raka Taviri Jr said water services are vital development and health ofthe people.

The funding will completethe construction of Stage 1. Feasibility studies for stages 2 and 3 have been completed and contract awarding process will take placethe next 2 months.

Governor Kavo added that Gulf Provincial government will work with WaterPNG to facilitatethe project including sewage.

Construction will start before end of this year.

WaterPNG in Madang

A joint study will be conducted between WaterPNG and an Australian – based company Hunters Water, intothe possibility of supplying water tothe multi- million kina MadangIndustrial Zone.

WaterPNG Madang Beanch Manager Eliud Mairom revealedthe large scale projectowill require up to 20 mega litres of water.

A stand- alone facility would be needed for this purpose; Madang’s current water demand is about seven mega litre’s.

Mr Mairom said Ground work is expected to begin next month.
