Head of Kavieng provincial hospital Dr Alphonse Tei saysthe hospital is in dire need of maintenance withthe most urgent beingthe operatingtheatre.
Dr Tei gave a grim picture where all hospital operations are concentrated inthe main labour ward and expectant mthers have been moverd to a smaller room next door.
As a result of that Dr Tei saidthere have been instances where women have had to give birth onthe floor.
The labour ward has only two beds, it admits about five to ten mthers a day.
