Commonwealth Gold medalist, Steven Kari, took part in the weightlifting trials at the high performance centre, yesterday.
Steven was among many male weight lifters vying for a spot in the 2015 Pacific Games.
Attending the event was Oceania General Secretary, Paul Coffam and PNG Weightlifting President, Sir John Dawanicura.
Steven Kari was out yesterday to prove his critics wrong.
And he certainly did, lifting an impressive 140 kilograms in the snatch and 190 kilograms in the clean and jerk in his respective weight category, 94 kilograms.
Despite not returning to the Oceania Weightlifting Institute in New Caledonia, he believes he will make the weightlifting team for Papua New Guinea, with his sight set on winning gold in the Pacific Games come July.
His performance at the trials drew positive reaction from the crowds and the coaches. It was a confidence boost for him.
Oceania weightlifting coach, Paul Coffa, says they are in talks with Kari to iron out the recent fall out.
A squad of 25 will be selected from the trials, and later trimmed down for final selections, to become a part of Team PNG.
