Karamui: Opening of New Treasury

Newly Knighted Chief Secretary Sir Manasupe Zurenouc has called on District Treasury Officers to performtheir duty and not to abusethe office.

Sir Manasupe said a lot of money is being channeled directly tothe Districts and he urged public servants to ensurethese funds are used appropriately.

 

He was among ther Members of Parliament including Finance Minister James Marape who flew into Karamui and Chuave Districts inthe Simbu Province to officially openthe District Treasury Offices yesterday.

 

It was a colourful welcome for the visitors as traditional dancers embracedthem in this part of Simbu’s remote Karamui Salt Nomane District.

The occasion markedthe opening of District Treasury Offices and 9’s taff houses for boththe Karamui District and Chuave. The celebration was well –attended by Simbu Members of Parliament including Governor Noah Kul. Public Servants were also present to withnessthe opening.

Special guest Sir Manasupe Zurenouc toldthe crowd thatthere are over 60 District Treasury Offices inthe country with plans to add anther 20 plus offices. He discouraged public servants to usethe Office as a Rubber Stamp for Members of Parliament but rther to utilise funds for the people’s benefit.

The Finance Minister, James Marape, toldthe people thatthe ONeill – Dion government has allocated K1.5 million as development grants for them to carry out community projects inthe Districts. Another K2.5 million was presented by Minister Marape to Karamui District and Chuave to improver bad roads and run-down schools.

Similar District Treasury Offices will be constructed soon in Districts without this important function.
