K80 million needed for LLG elections

ThPNG Electoral Commission needs K80 million kina to carry out Local Level Government Elections mid this year.

Commissioner Andrew Trawen announced this on Tuesday duringtheir dedication service in Port Moresby.

Withthe 2012 General Election out ofthe way,the Commissioner put it to his staff to prepare for the upcoming LLG Elections in July.

Onthe funding aspectoCommissioner Trawen saidthey had submitted a K80 million budget tothe National Government butthe government is only giving K50 million.

This means thatthere will be no money for election security operations as wasthe case inthe 2012 national general elections.

Withthe increase inthe LLG budget of K500 000 per LLG,the Commission expectsthe number of candidates to increase.

Andthe dedication service yesterday atthe Reverend Sioni Kami Memorial Church for the commission’s staff was a good time to committheir activities for the year tothe God.
