K30 million lending facility for Lihir LO’s

The Mineral Resource Lihir has launched a K30 million lending facility for landowner groups in Lihir.

This is to give landowner groupsthe opportunity to tap into economic activities to sustainthemselves.

Lihir Island inthe New Ireland Province has a population of 14, 000 people. The local economy thrives onthe back ofthe Lihir Gold Mine.

Bet overthe yearsthe people have participated in very little economic activities onthe Island.

This is about to change withthe Thirty Million Kina lending facility from Mineral Resource Lihir. It allowsthe six clans on Lihir to borrow a minimum of One Million Kina and a maximum of Five Million Kina to venture into economic activities.

Chief Executive Officer of MRL Kible Benga called onthe people to usethe lending facility to sustainthemselves.

While Chairman Mark Soipang called for a united Lihir. He says Lihir have missed out for too long and this is a timely initiative.

Financial independence and economic benefits he says isthe ultimate goal that must be achieved for all Lihirians followingthe closer ofthe mine.
