The Wapenamanda District Development Authority (WDDA) in Enga Province has allocated K3 million to subsidize school fees for more than 1,300 students attending 60 different tertiary institutions in the country.
Finance and Transport Minister Miki Kaeok emphasized the need for an educated population to boost various socio-economic developments in his district, province and country as a whole.
Minister Kaeok said the WDDA is subsidizing tuition fees for all tertiary students from the district regardless of their political affiliations as he is their mandated leader responsible for setting a solid foundation the future leaders through investment in integral human resource development.
He said that the WDDA will continue to fund the Wapenamanda Tertiary Students Tuition Fee Assistance Scheme as he strongly believes that Wapenamanda District will produce more educated elites to propel the local economy when the giant Porgera gold mine closes down.
The Wapenamanda Tertiary Students Tuition Fee Assistance Scheme Team has been visiting various tertiary institutions throughout the country since the beginning of this year ensuring Wapenamanda students do not miss out on their school fee subsidies.
