Justin Tkatchenko: PNG is well prepared for APEC

APEC Minister Justin Tkatchenko has assured that Papua New Guinea is well prepared to host the leaders’ summit.

In a press conference today, minister Tkatchenko said that preparations are all in hand.

Transportation have begun progress including security operations, APEC facilities are complete and functional.

The APEC house will be fully kitted and set up next week to ensure that it is ready as the main venue for the meeting.

Tkatchenko said that the Australian government have been sensationally working closely with the Papua New Guinea police force to ensure that the world leaders’ safety is secured on land, air and sea.

As well as New Zealand and US defence forces, they are working together to make sure that the world leaders will be protected.

Three luxury cruise ships will arrive in Port Moresby starting on the 13th of November.

Tkatchenko mentioned that this cruise ships will cater for the delegates including CEO’s and other overflows from the participating countries.

Tkatchenko also mentioned that the nation’s capital will not be locked down during the summit.

However, there will be restrictions around APEC house and other hosting venues when the summit begins.

Meanwhile, the National Executive Council has approved a nationwide public holiday on the 16th of November. The public holiday is purposely declared so that the people of PNG do witness this state event and also to make sure that all aspect of APEC from logistics to security are covered during the meeting.
