Jonathan Michael was awarded the New Porgera Limited (NPL) Award at the 57th Papua New Guinea University of Technology (PNGUoT) graduation ceremony in Lae, Morobe Province yesterday.
The 25-year-old from Western Highlands Province, received this prestigious award for Overall Best Performing Student in Mining Engineering from NPL Manager Open Pit Mine Operations, Frank Daniels.
In presenting the award, Mr. Daniels congratulated Mr. Michael, and wished him well for the transition into formal employment.
“NPL is proud to sponsor this award, and we congratulate you for your achievement in proving yourself as the best student in Mining Engineering among your cohort,” Daniels said.
He mentioned that as a project, NPL has had a long and successful association with PNGUoT, and other tertiary institutions, which has included scholarships, job placements, and participation in the graduate development program, benefiting more than one thousand students.
“These professionals now lead the industry not only in PNG, but also globally,” he said.
“Your award today is not only for you, but also for your family who have supported you in this journey to graduate. This is a testament to what can be achieved through dedication and commitment,” he added
“You should be proud of your achievement,” Daniels said.
NPL also commended PNGUoT ‘s administration, lecturers and staff, who continue to guide and develop the next generation of skilled professionals.
“Your efforts will ensure the development of a skilled workforce that will lead our country’s mineral resources industry.” Daniels said.
