Kurkur Primary School in South Waghi District , Jiwaka Province, is more than three decades old but has not seen any changes to its infrastructure.
However, the school’s administration has put up two new buildings with the savings from the Tuition Fee Free subsidy.
Even though the budget did not meet the cost of the buildings, the contractor agreed to build on a credit basis.
The member for South Waghi, Komun Joe Koim, was invited to open the new classrooms and teacher houses.
The occasion was for the opening of a new classroom and teachers house built with a funding of K350,000 funds made available by the school’s administration.
With a recent raise from level four to five standards, the school needed new infrastructure to cater for its 300 plus student population.
The project was initiated three years ago but was only completed in June this year.
The school’s administration acknowledged the assistance of the government’s tuition fee free policy, saying the funding has helped the school save to build new infrastructure.
When addressing the people, the member expressed the importance of fair distribution of services to all parts of the district for services to reach the people.
