Jiwaka Denies Failed LLG Election

Jiwaka Provincial Administrator, Tokana Hasavi, has refutedthe Electoral Commissioner’s recent announcement of failed LLG Elections inthe Highlands Region.

Mr Hasavi was referring to Commissioner Andrew Trawen’s inclusion of Anglimp South Waghi and North Waghi LLG’s as failed Elections.

He saysthe situation onthe ground is normal and not as reported byth, Faceless Officers who claim to representthe Electoral Commission.

Mr Hasavi was disappointed thatthere was no proper dialogue betweenthe Electoral Commission and those responsible for conductingthe elections onthe ground.

The three AssistantReturning Officers for South Waghi, Anglimpand North Waghi expressed similar sentiments, statingthe election was progressing well up untilthe announcement bythe Commissioner.

“We didn’trsquo;t face any problem…it was running well, and we’re really disappointed that our LLG was declared and listed as a FAILED LLG.”

Last week, the Electoral Commissioner declared 20 LLG inthe Highlands Region as failed. Amongthe issues werethe hijacking and destruction of ballot boxes and papers, ransacking of polling booths and lack of freedom to vote for females andthe elderly.

However, the Jiwaka Provincial Administration maintains counting will progress and declarations will be made soon for the different LLG’s.
