Papua New Guinea Jason Yip has won the first place in the International Game Fishing Association’s first Anglers Choice Contest with his All-Tackle record Papuan black snapper.
The Papuan black snapper weighed at 20.87 kilogram, it wasn’t the heaviest catch or even a fish that is widely accessible to most anglers.
“it seems like not only Papua New Guinea wanted this win,” Yip enthused when he was informed of his victory. There were many supporters from around the world voting- Japan, Indonesia, Philippines, Australia, USA, Hong Kong, Singapore and Ireland. It is gratifying to see that all the hard work and sticking to my passion for fishing for the Papuan black snapper is all worth it.
The contest saw 10 freshwater and saltwater catches made in eight countries against each other for the honor of being named the best new world record.
Yip will be presented his award at the 11th Annual World Record Achievement Award ceremony at IGFA Hall of Fame and Museum on April 26th.
