Ipatas Cup Southern Leg Final Playoffs

Waigani Ira Lais were a try short to qualify for the Coca Cola Ipatas Cup playoffs.

Ira Lais succumbed to Lagaip Brothers 16-12 at the final whistle.

The Brothers and Storms are expected ‘to control their own destiny’ in the playoffs to be held in Lae, Morobe Province.

It was the wildcard race between the Waigani Ira Lais and Whitehaven Lagaip Brothers in white.

Lagaip Brothers made a breakthrough in their pool while the Ira Lais ‘played a soft schedule’.

Both teams went true to form in the opening minutes, making every possible attempt to find the try line.

Ira Lais ran the opening try, adding the pressure on the Brothers.

Brothers utilized the forwards while they kept running the ball from both wings but the Waigani boys were the real deal as they kept tightening their defense right through to the half time.

In the second half, Brothers moved with force, ready to play their cards right.

Brothers bagged three tries while the Ira Lais managed to go past the try line once, living the game in favor of the Brothers at the final hooter.

In the earlier match played, Six Mile Storms pocketed the gold pass by beating the Dep Eels  6 points to 4.

Storms and Brothers are now in the driver’s seat, ready to lock horns in the Coca Cola Ipatas Cup final playoffs.
