Infrastructure Development Planning Important

By Stanley Ove Jr – EM TV News, Port Moresby

A recently launched road management reform paper by the National Research Institute (NRI) has revealed that there is a greater need for proper planning of all infrastructure development in Papua New Guinea.

The Director of NRI, Dr. Charles Yala, said with the country’s growing population planning must be the national government’s main objective when delivering its services.

When asked about road planning, Dr. Yala said the government is not properly planning major road developments in the country.

He said roads must be built to create economic opportunities. This will not only give access to services but will cut down on costs for the national government. Dr. Yala added that road planning is important for economic benefit.

“Roads must not be built unnecessary, it must be planned and built as it will link people to services like education, health and shops,” Dr. Yala said.
