Surprise Change at ICCC

by Mickey Kavera – EM TV News, Port Moresby

A surprise take over took place yesterday morning at the Independent Consumer and Competition Commission Office in Port Moresby.

Staff were caught off guard as the new Commissioner, Paulus Ain, moved in with police and former ICCC staff to assert his position, with Ain defending these actions saying it was a smooth transition.

Senior management and staff of the ICCC were expecting a formal handover to take place, but it now seems that this was never to occur.

Ain’s appointment follows the stepping down of former Commissioner Dr. Billy Manoka.

ICCC General Manager Elastus Geroro played down the manner in which the transition took place.

Ain, having worked as a former senior staff member of the ICCC, says he is committed to the development agenda of the government.

He returns to the ICCC as the new commissioner hoping to restore some level of certainty from regulated entities, the business community and general consumers both in PNG and abroad.
