Hunters name 26-man squad for the season

by Tere Alex – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

The SP PNG Hunters have named a 26-man squad for the 2015 Intrust Super Cup campaign.

The squad was named after the Warts and Thompsons trial with South Sydney, while new recruits were identified throughout 2014. It will be as tough as the debut season, as the PNG franchise gears up for their second year assault.

Head Coach Michael Marum knows the opening round will not be an easy beat as his coaching staff is working on settling and blending the new recruits with the experienced players from 2014. Marum said the club, for the first time, had a full preparation and it shows:

“The boys from last year are bigger, stronger and fitter. They have that experience now from a full season in the competition and know what to expect. The new guys have also adapted well and are training the house down. It’s a new-look squad but one I am very excited about.”

The new recruits include Kato Ottio, Ase Boas, Stargoth Amean, Warren Glare, Philemon Kimiseve, Henry Wan, David Lapua, Atte Bine Wabo, Jay Jay Garisson, Bland Abavu and Enock Maki; Maki had been dropped last year for disciplinary action but was also named.

The regulars are Adex Wera, Adam Korave, Brandy Peter, Edward Goma, Esau Siune, George Benson, Israel Eliab, Lawrence Tu’u, Noel Zemming, Roger Laka, Sebastian Pandia, Timothy Lomai and award-winning Willie Minoga.

The SP PNG Hunters have a trial match against the Ipswich Jets at North Ipswich Reserve on Saturday the 21st of February, with the club season launch scheduled for Saturday the 28th of February in Port Moresby.
