Housing moves to build affordable homes

The Housing and Urban Development Department has moverd to build affordable homes for Papua New Guineas.

Minister responsible Paul Isikiel told Parliament that several housing projects are already underway in some parts ofthe country.

Minister Isikiel was asked to explainthe implementation strategies of providing affordable housing by East New Beitain Governor Eremas ToBeining Junior.

He responded sayingthe department embarked onthe PublicInvestment Program principal to carry outthe exercise.

Houses will be built and put onthe market at affordable prices. Beyers can purchasethe houses on a mortgage basis.

The MOUs to carry outthe building exercises were signed with Pearls Miihome Group in AustraliaPNG Forest products and Hardware Haus.

Currently houses are being built at Gerehu inthe nation’s capital and about twenty thers in Madang province.

The department is also looking at blocks near Bemana just outside of Port Moresby, for resettlement exercises.
