He congratulated the boys on a fine effort saying that their performance on the field has done PNG proud.
The National side drew with Fiji (1-1), but lost to New Zealand and Host Solomon Islands. They finished at the tail end of the group.
Mr O’Neill said the team performed very well against very strong opponents and that we can hold our heads up high for an effort full of quality as pointed out by experts who watched the game.
He also commended the team management under Frank Farina. He said in a short time Farina has done a wonderful job and encourage the governing body of soccer in PNG to consider retaining his services for a longer term.
Mr O’Neill said his government stands ready to assist where they can in that regard.
