Hohola EP Park Needs Major Uplift

By Jeremy Mogi – EM TV, Port Moresby

The Hohola EP Park has hosted numerous rugby league competitions and off-season tournaments for a number of years but little has been done to develop the grounds.

With major sports venues along the Bisini Parade under construction for the Pacific Games, annual sports competitions in the nation’s capital have been forced to postpone the season or search for alternative venues.

Existing public sports venues such as the Hohola EP Park have been utilised to host the 2014 Governor’s Cup, however it is in dire need of a major uplift.

Without proper irrigation, the grounds have little turf for players to play on. The scorching heat dries up the turf and continuous use does not allow a layer to survive. This has led to players enduring minor injuries and bruises.

Proper fencing is needed to control the crowd capacity, with the safety of players and officials a concern. Maintainence of existing ablution blocks is also needed.

Minor developments of the rugby park will elevate the standard of the venue itself and existing public sports venues around the city, and ensure that they are conducive to host minor annual competitions.
