High Cost of Service Delivery affecting Menyamya District

by Jack Lapauve Jr – EM TV, Port Moresby

Menyamya MP, Benjamin Philip, is concerned over the high cost of building and delivering services to rural areas.

Mr Philip said for Menyamya, road was prioritised with less attention directed to education and health. He says the government must consider this when allocating funds.

Now the Menyamya district is building roads as a key priority project to give access to people. But, this development has not gone down well with MP Philip because health and education sectors were given less prominence in funding.

Recently West New Britain Governor, Sasindran Muthuvel, asked the national government to make reservations and allocate funding to help districts deliver adequate services to rural areas. Governor Muthuvel said most rural places are populated and funds allocated cannot help build all necessary services needed.

Every district in the country has its own story to tell when it comes to delivering services.

And with the current state of the economy, and an increasing cash flow problem, development projects in some parts of the country will be affected over the next two years.
