Hela Launches Provincial Health Authority

Hela Province has come onboard to establish its Provincial Health Authority to improve health services in the province.

The establishment of the Hela Provincial Health Authority is a reform by the current Government to improve health services effectively.

Speaking during the launch in Tari, Health Minister, Michael Malabag, said the authority will remove barriers to effectively deliver primary health care to the people. He said there has been many hindrances to systems of health services.

Minister Malabag said PHA is the way forward to help get health services to rural communities.

The Minister also challenged the new hospital board to carry out its responsibilities.

Coinciding with the launch was the swearing in of the Hospital Board Following the day the board held its first meeting and appointed Dr Issac Ake, as Acting Chief Executive Officer for the hospital board.

Since becoming a Province, people from all three districts access most services in town. However, the establishment of its Health Authority will help alleviate challenges faced by rural health facilities.

Hela Governor, Francis Potape, said the PHA will guide political beauracrats to build better health services for the people of Hela.

Hundreds gathered in Tari to witness the occasion.

Present was Hela Governor Francis Potape, Tari Pori MP James Marape, Koroba Kopiago MP Philip Undialu including senior Government officials, Health Minister Michael Malabag and Secretary Pascoe Kase.
