Hekari Win Welgris Championship Series

Hekari United FC beat Welgris Morobe United FC 2-nill this after at the Sir Ignatius Killage Stadium.

The Telikom National Soccer League champion’s series continues with this upset to Morobe Welgris at home in front of a near 10,000 fans.

As rain threatened to pour, both teams looked evenly matched in the first five minutes.

Against a back drop of heavy cheers by the home crowd Morobe Welgris came up with the first points.

In the 23rd minute, Semmie Campbell crossed the ball into the box to Becgen Yanum for a volley past Hekari United Goalkeeper, Ishmael Pole.

The 10,000 strong fans go crazy. The game continued on with Hekari chasing Welgris.

After 19 minutes of intense football, in the dying minute of the first half, Hekari draw level when Koriak Upaiga scored from an Emmanuel Simon pass after sloppy Welgris defense.

The break at half time was silent. Fans sensing the Hekari United was on a comeback.

In the second half the tussle continued. Mid way through the second a hande ball by Hekari Goalkeeper, Ishmael Pole gave a free kick. Welgris failed to capitalise.

In the 64th minute, Hekari United’s Barry Mansale scored the finisher ensuring Hekari United won two nill at full time.

Emmenual Simon had an outstanding match today.

Welgris Goal keeper, Yagi Koniel was kept under the pump.
