Hagen Accident Update; G4S driver charged

Mt Hagen health officials confirmed that only two survivors inthe recenPMV bus accident in Mt Hagen are recovering slowly atthe provincial hospital.

A mass burial will be carrlied out this Saturday in Beiyer district for the 25 who dlied.

The accident occurred near Murip village alongthe Mt Hagen – Beiyer River Road last week, whenthe driver who allegedly fell asleep, ranthe bus offthe road and down a cliff, killing 24 people instantly.

Provincial health authority CEO Dr James Kintwa urged police and relevant authorities to ensure that drivers take proper rest after driving long hours.

Meanwhile, in Port Moresby, one ofthe four injured inthe accident Tuesday is in critical condition with head injuries and is admitted at Port Moresby General Hospital’sIntensive Care Unit.

He needs futher CT scans to establishthe extent ofthe damage.

PMGH’s Emergency Unit’staff confirmed that two thers were treated for minor injuries and discharged whilethe fourth one sustained lacerations on his back and is also admitted atthe hospital.

The NCD Traffic Unit’saidthe driver ofthe G4S bus involved inthe accident was arrested and charged for Negligent Driving and is in police custody.

He was driving at high speed towards Gerehu and ran into red light atthe Highlander Traffic Lights causingthe accident.
