Grandmother Abducted, Raped and Killed in Lae’s Five Mile Settlement

By Bethanie Harriman – EM TV, Lae

The body of a middle aged woman was taken to Lae’s Angau Hospital on Saturday morning, 17 January, after she was found deep in the swamps of Five Mile.

The grandmother of two was reported to have been abducted, raped and killed by her kidnappers. Her body was retrieved by police and taken to the morgue.

The deceased was transported to Lae’s Angau Morgue, accompanied by relatives from Buang, in the Morobe Province.

The grandmother laid lifeless, wrapped up in clothes, as her husband and brother, both in shock, looked on with disbelief. She had suffered from a mental condition that took her far from home.

Simon Banan her brother (pictured) explained through deep sobs that she is his half-sister.

It’s understood that police have called on the Five Mile community to handover those responsible.

The grandmother leaves behind her husband and two grandchildren. Deeply appalled by the alleged abduction, rape and murder of their kin, relatives from Buang, in the Bulolo district, have agreed for police to carry out full investigations into her death.
