Grade 10’s at Waigani Christian College Allowed To Sit For Exams

by Quinton Alomp – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Over 400 Grade 10 students at Waigani Christian College have been allowed to sit their national examinations.

Two weeks ago the school said to remove them if the government fail to pay their teacher’s salaries.

The school has 27 Grade 10 teachers and the total salary the school asked the government to pay is K850,000.

At first the government refused to pay the money and asked the school to charge K2,000 per student.

However, the students confronted the Finance department and expressed their case.

In response, Secretary, Ken Ngangan, promised to solve the issue.

The 461 students were allowed to sit the national examinations starting yesterday.

They are part of 59,200 Grade 10 students sitting for exams in 256 schools nationwide. School Director, Benjamin Mul, said it was fortunate the students sat for their exams.
