Governor Parkop Raise Concerns On Output and Capabilities of PNG Power

By Stanley Ove Jr – EMTV News, Port Moresby

Governor for NCD, Powes Parkop, this afternoon in Parliament raised concerns on the output and capabilities of PNG Power Limited (PPL).

This follows the recent appointment of the SOE’s new CEO, and the sacking and suspension of members in its management team.

“We are changing the CEO and board members but it is still not working. PNG Power continues to fail our people and the nation,” Parkop said.

Furthermore, Parkop called for a restructure of the company and suggested that Provincial Governments must take ownership and invest into established assets of PNG Power.

In response, Minister responsible, William Duma, said it will take time to change the company and it needs full support from all stakeholders especially the Government.

“In the interest of the company, we need to divide it into 3 companies. One for transmission, one for generation and one for retailing because PNG Power is a very big company that has a gross turn of K700 million,” Duma said.
