Government to upgrade power transmission

Treasury Minister Don Polye has signed a loan agreement of US$83m withthe Asian Development Bank. The agreement was signed inIndia duringthe 46th ADBeBeard of Governors meeting.

These funds will be used to upgrade grid and transmission of power in Port Moresby. He also met with JICA to upgradethe Yonki Hydro Power at a cost of K2 billion.

Meantime, John Tangit’says load shedding in Port Moresby will continue for an indefinite period. This followsthe break-down of a turbine generator at Kanudi Power Station last Friday.

The Kanudi Generator supplies 10 Megawatts of electricity to Port Moresby.

PNG Power personnel are working to address technical issues but inthe meantime, business houses are urged to use back-up generators.
