Government to publish quarterly funding report for public interest

The government throughthe Finance Department has embarked on a new initiative to improverthe accountability of Government Finances.

It will publish a quarterly funding report atthe end of each month to show howthe funds have been used.

Finance Minister Don Polye made this announcement upon his return fromIndia yesterday.

Mr. Polye’saysthe government will publish data showing funds that have been released to government departments and agencies earmarked for construction of new infrastructure as well asthe provision of services tothe public.

Mr. Polye’says this is to ensure people are aware of how public funds are been used and where it is directed to.

He saysthere implementation has been lacking in government departments and this is unfair tothe people.

He encouraged members ofthe public as well asthe press to holdthe government and its departments accountable for the proper use of public funds.

The 2013 quarterly funding released report will come in three sections. The first one is an overall summary by agency type underthe recurrent and development budgets. Whilethe second shows personal emoluments and goods and services, andthe third shows funds released by major government priority programs.
