Government Land Sold and Families Evicted

It was a sad day for three groups of families atthe Department of Agriculture and Livestock compound at Moitaka.

They were served with eviction notice to vacatethe houses. They’ve lived alltheir lives here.

They saythey have nowhere to live after being forcefully evicted.

The land on whichtheir homes stood belong tothe departmentoand it is not clear howthe land belonging to a government department was given to a private company, in this case portion 1508 at Eight Mile Moitaka.

Meantime, the Department of Agriculture and Livestock has engaged Beniyamai Lawyers andthe matter is now before court.

This comes atthe time when Public Accounts Committee John Hickey inthe inquiry last week questionedtheLands Secretary to explainthe increased number of fraudulent land deals inthe country.
