Government education fund monitoring & evaluation questioned

The National Government was questioned in Parliament ifthere were monitoring and evaluation systems in place to ensure government funding inthe education sector would be used appropriately.

Wabag MP Robert Ganim raisedthe question to Acting Minister for Education James Marape, also ifthe year of implementation for education would be successful.

Mr Ganim asked Minister Marape what his Ministry andthe Department was doing to addressthe serious concerns withinthe education sector.

They included:the 7000 teachers put offthe payroll; pay increases for teachers; decentralization ofthe paying systems tothe provinces; and ghost teachers.

Minister Marape’said with almost a quarter ofthe 2013 budget going to education,they were adamant issues including infrastructures are addressed.

The issue of raising teachers’ salaries has been a long standing issue.

Minister Marape’said by August a report will be tabled highlightingthe progress ofthe sector inthe first half ofthe year.
