After seven years, the PNG Hunters will take one of their 2026 pre-season trial matches beyond Port Moresby and into the heart of the Eastern Highlands province.
Hunters will host the Ipswich Jets at National Sports Institute in Goroka next week on February 22, 2026. The match will kick off at 2pm.
The club played their last country round match out of Port Moresby in Enga on July 2019. This year’s trial match away from their traditional National Football Stadium venue in Port Moresby is reinforcing the club’s commitment to bringing top level rugby league match to the people.
The match is said to bring also the surrounding provinces to the venue.
This fixture represents a significant moment for Goroka and the Highlands region, acknowledging the strong rugby league culture
The trial match will also play a vital role in the Hunters’ preparation for the 2026 season, allowing players to build match fitness, combinations and momentum.
