The World Association of Girl Guides, and Girl Scouts, work in partnership to act as agents of change in their communities to find ways to overcome challenges.

Since joining the global network of girl guides in 2009, PNG’s Girl Guides have dedicated every World Thinking Day to promoting the eight United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs)

The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) have created inspiring and youth-friendly themes from the UNs eight SDGs.

This year’s theme focus was on the eighth SDG-Environment and climate change.

It was also the final element of the WAGGGS Global Action Plan.

Instead of the formal Develop a Global Partnership for Development, girls worldwide say, “we can create peace through partnership.”

Girl guides and girl Scouts said it was important for them to take part in achieving the SDGs because they tackle issues that affect young women like themselves all over the world.

They believed in empowering young women through a three step process of belonging, leadership and advocacy.

Rachael Gware, Structural Management Advisor for Girl Guides Association PNG (GGAPNG) believed instilling these principles in children as early as in primary education was essential to improving our law and order status.

Boys and girls learn to respect each other at an early age and the community in the spirit of creating peace though partnership.
