Geua’s 8th Snooker Title

PNG women’s snooker champion Geua John won her 8th consecutive National Womenrsquo;s snooker title in Port Moresby overthe weekend.

The Oceania runner up defeated Beio Lele Vani, 4 nil inthe best of seven frames withthe highestbreaktthe Port Moresby Country club.

John madethe highestbreakf 25 ofthe tournament inthe third frame ofthe final.

This is her first title under new sponsors Agara Engineering. The Porebada woman beat newcomer Louisa Veveka 2-0 inthe last 16, felloPNG representative Helen Samuel 3-0 inthe quarter final and former champion Agnes Mawi 3-1 inthe semi finals to cruise tothe finals.

While onthe ther end, Vani beat fellow Hanuabadan Hane Vaieke 2-1 inthe last 16, edged out Waisina Laho 3-2 in a marathon quarter finals and pipped Madeleine Kaina 3-2 inthe semi finals to set up a showdown against John.

The Plate was won by Loa Tanza when she beat Susan Tiki 2-0.

Tournament Director Richard Whitchurch congratulated all 32 players who took part inthe inaugural Agara Womenrsquo;s snooker titles.

 “Beg thanks to you all. Also we are grateful to Agara Engineering for their sponsorship and look forward totheir continued support inthe future,” Whitchurch said.

Support sponsors this year included Graffiti Signs, Freeway Motors (Gold), Vit’sIndustries, WhispePNG (Silver) and Evandar Ltd (Beonze). The tournament started on Thursday and was played atthe Car, Aviat and Port Moresby Country clubs.
