Garamuts Depart For Cricket World Cup Qualifiers

By Skola Sengi – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

Head Coach, John Ovia, has named a 14-member Garamuts team for the U19 Cricket World Cup qualifiers to take place in Malaysia.

The tournament, originally scheduled to be held in Nepal, was switched to Malaysia due to the Nepalese earthquake that devastated the country in April.

The Garamuts see no major changes to their team, with the inclusion of batsman Vagi Karoho, all-rounder Sinka Arua and non-travelling member Vagi Boko.

Leading up to their first qualifying match next week, the Garamuts will play three lead up matches against Singapore’s U19 side, in Singapore before departing to Malaysia.

Ovia said he is quietly confident despite missing out on an automatic qualification spot earlier this year.

The tournament will be held from October 14-23, with the Garamuts to play their first match against Nepal on Thursday, October 15.
