FREE EDUCATION FOR ELEMENTARY TO GRADE 12 IN 2023

A month away from the commencement of the 2023 academic year, school fees is one thing that parents and guardians are focusing on right now.

A concerned parent and member for Kairuku Peter Isoaimo during the first Parliament sitting for the year 2023, asked a question without notice, directed to the minister for education to give an update on the 2023 school fee subsidy.

“We have schools or institutions issuing notices to parents to pay school fees for kids to go back to school, while we have appropriate funding for 2023, free education in the national budget”

Mr Isoaimo questioned if the government through the education department has plans in place to assist in terms of schools fees.

Minister for education Jimmy Uguro responding to the question, highlighted that government will continue to support the education sector by paying school fees for students throughout the country.

“This year our government is continuing to pay school fees throughout the country, in general education for elementary to grade 12”

“K632 million school fee subsidy for elementary all the way to grade 12”

“No parents must pay school fees, your government will pay school fees”

“This morning we talked to Treasury to roll out this year’s first term school fee” Uguro said.

Minister Uguro clarify that no parents are to pay any form of school fees for students from elementary up to grade12 for the 2023 academic year and urge parents to report to the responsible authorities if any principal or school charge them with any fees.

“The head teacher and board members must not charge school fees”

He added that the government has allocated K160 million for Project fees as well.
